In the news today
see here
is the story of Cecil the lion killed by an American dentist, just for the sport!!! Apparently it is legal to hunt certain animals in Africa as long as a permit is obtained first. A big issue is made of this incident because Cecil was a protected
lion wearing a GPS tracking collar but for me all lions should be protected against “trophy hunters”. It was also reported that as Cecil was the dominant male in the pride one of the other young males will now take over and probably kill the two young cubs
fathered by Cecil. I just hope that this incident will highlight the fact that allowing this hunting loses more revenue for the country in lost tourism than is gained from allowing it to continue. It is a shame that money should be a factor in what should
just be a case of, NO, hunting these animals is not the right thing to do.
