CRIS registration change of ownership

Hi, 

I have bought a used van privately but there was no CRIS registration document with it. I didn't know at the time that there was such a thing (quite new to caravanning) so I did not ask for it. Will I be able to change ownership of the van without the document?

Any help with this is much appreciated.
