Broken Alko hitch lock

I have an Al-Ko hitch lock which I have had for a few years.  It's the dark red one that goes over the lock so that it can be used while driving.  Just recently I've noticed that the barrel has come loose and falls out even when the system is locked.  Obviously
this means that it's virtually useless.  Has anyone ever had this happen before?  Could it be that it's just a little pin has broken inside and therefore could be repaired?  Or do I just have to forget it and buy a new one?  Has anybody else experienced this?
