KT 12 Power supply battery charger
HI and thanks in advance for reading. Have a Bessacarr 500GLE fitted with a KT12 charger and KT5 panel that is off, van or car only.
My problem is that a battery that I had used many times has been on charge and gassed a dangerous and awful smell and only glad I wasn't away. Now this could be down to me over charging, a bad battery or the charger is faulty.
I'm after if anyone has the instructions for the kt12 to help. The charger is putting out 15 volts which to me seems quite excessive and not sure if this is right. Now I'm relatively new so bear with me, when I'm away I permanently have the switch in the van
to van. So that I can run all twelve volt, now I assumed that this would not charge the battery at the same time but it is. I can run the van off the battery by turning the charger off but am I supposed to run the 12 volt on the battery and then re charge
when necessary ?? The battery charger does supply 12 volt without the battery attached which is fine as I am always on hook up but then the battery terminals are live in the battery box which is not ideal.
I believed that when away I turned the charger on and the switch on the panel to caravan and this would be it for the time away, but I don't want the battery cooking whilst we're asleep in the van.
Sorry it's a bit complicated but unsure if its just the battery gone and I am doing the right thing or the real worry is the charger is on its way out and it will destroy a new battery.
Thanks for your time and sorry it's a bit long winded and if anyone does have a copy of the charger instructions I would be most grateful.
Regards
Paul
