Elddis water ingress
Hi, our 3 year old ( pre Solid construction ) Explore Has just had its annual service during which damp was found in the bathroom at the rear of the van at floor level. The workshop asked us to call in as they had another similar van in with the same problem,
a lot worse than ours, and wanted us to see why this had occured. I will explain .... The lighting panel at the rear is attached to the main rear panel of the van and sealed with a line of sealant running across the width of the van. This sealant had failed
and water was getting behind the panel and collecting at the bottom. There are two drain holes but these are only effective if the van is sloping towards the back slightly, if its level or sloping forwards the water does not drain through the holes but collects
against the inner rear panel and seeps through into the floor and wicks up the walls. The other van needed considerable repairs, ours had been spotted in time and just required a bit of warmth and a resealed panel. The warranty covered it. if you have an Explore
make sure you check the line of sealant periodically and pitch with the rear slightly lower to allow any water to drain.
