Pets and washing facilities !!!
I was always told never to put your head up over the parapet if you are not prepared to get it shot off, so here goes!
We are staying at an extremely well kept and delightful Caravan Club site. The facilities with regards to personal cleanliness are first class, and the clothes washing area is ideal as the washing machines have been renewed quite recently, along with the
tumble dryers.
There is a notice in the laundry room requesting that the machines are not to be used for washing pet bedding. I was completely shocked when we went to do our clothes washing today to find the two washing machines had been used to wash and dry dogs coats
and towels. There were dogs hairs coating the inside of the machines and the rubber sealing rings. As my wife and I attempted to clean the machines of the hairs, a woman came in and emptied the tumble dryers of her belongings. She then remarked that my wife
was doing a very good job of cleaning the machines, and proceeded to tell us that she had just used both machines and tumble dryers to wash her two dogs’ numerous towels and dog coats. I was just about to highlight the request on the wall about pets, when
I realised that it is a request, not a directive.
She then left without even de-fluffing the dryers. Again, my wife had to do it.
We are dog owners ourselves and we understand how difficult it is to keep our pet dry and clean with the weather we have had over the last six weeks. But I think it is wrong to use washing and drying facilities that are specifically available for the purpose
of keeping your own – i.e. human – clothes and bedding clean.
The people that see nothing wrong with using these facilities with total disregard for anybody else need to take a good look at themselves (but that will never happen as they only care about themselves and do not consider other people).
My wife and I have discussed this issue, and come up with what we hope may be a solution. Could the Caravan Club provide washing facilities solely for pets and their bedding? Now, that’s a topic for discussion......
