battery life

Hi, we recently bought a new motorhome, our first. We were told that when being left for any time and not in use, it would need to have a long run out or connect to the mains every couple of weeks to maintain charge for the batteries. Can anyone tell me
how long the battery should stay charged up before going flat please?
