Information and advice please
Hi All
You probably get loads of posts like this one but i am hoping someone can help me. My husband and I have decided that we would like to buy a touring caravan so that we can go on holiday with our 2 daughters (aged 1 & 6) a few times each year. We normally
stay in static caravans but the appeal of being able to go to different places whilst on 1 holiday is why we are thinking of buying our own. The main places we would be going would be South Wales, North Wales and the Lake District. The advice/information
we need are as follows:
1) Approximate running costs i.e.storage costs, insuance (does it go on your car insurance, Home insurance?), MOT (do you have to have a MOT?), cost of having a tow bar fitted etc etc.
2) What kind of caravan would be best suited to a complete beginner with 2 young children?
3) reputable places to buy second hand caravans?
4) towing - how hard is it? my husband can tow on his licence, i can't, but i will eventually take the test so we will both be able to. we have looked at the CC courses are these advisable?
5) things you need for a caravan, i have read up and noticed things like electric hook ups - is this just a cable you can plug in whilst on site that runs everything in the caravan? is there also a battery so that you have power when there is no hook-up?
my uncle has a boat and he has a big battery that powers everything on the boat, water storage might sound silly but do you have two big containers one with clean water and one that your waste water drains into? can you just empy and refill these on site?,
cassette toilets - what are these?, gas - is this just a gas bottle like you get for gas barbecues? etc,
i know there are lots of questions but we really don't to go into this blind! I am sure i have also missed some really important things so if anyone has any other advice it would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks very much in advance
