Brailsford (the 'great cycling supremo', who basically knows nowt about cycling but has a big wedge to buy riders and staff who do)

Dave Brailsford may, in your opinion, know nowt about cycling, but he is savy enough about the sport to hire/engage many who do. Not all great managers have been world winners in their respective sports, but have guided their teams to world leaders/success,
eg Alex Ferguson & Jose Marino in soccer, Eddie Jones & Clive Woodward in Rugby Union.

    1 Goldie - Froome           2 IanH - Quintana

    6 tda - Bardet                11 HughR - TeeJay

    13 Runrig - Aru              14 SteveL - Porte

    15 nth - Barguil              152 - Pliers

    Gone Home Kennine - Contador

Wonder if it will be the same by the time of the next rest day.

Great performance today by Peter Sagan.

Stage won by Michael Matthews, who wheel-sucked his way to victory.

No real change to tbe overall standings.

Le tour came alive today, great breakaway, Sagan wasted energy by pacing the breakaway group.and had little energy for the final sprint. Matthews took advantage and IMO stole the race without working for it.

Sky was the usual boring procession. Makes it extremely disappointing for the cycling fans.

Not there job to attack the breakaway, they have the Yellow Jersey and as long as the time gap was not too large there's no need to pull them back. There were other teams with specialised sprinters who should have lead the chase so as to give their main
man the chance of a win.

Orica, with having 3 men in the breakaway, worked the hex on Sagan. Plenty of work done by Durbridge and Impey when the group were cut to 7 men to ensure that Matthews was in the right place at the right time. Sagan was too keen to try and break up that
final bunch and used up just too much energy to enable him to win the stage.

Sagan rode his socks of today, and did brilliant to take second, but he knew how it would play out after he split the break, but not Oreca.

Reminded me of a Paris-Roubaix of about 15 years ago when George Hincapie was pre-race favourite and in a break, but had three or four Domo riders to contend with. He had to chase every attack, but Knaven (or was it Museuw) just stayed on his wheel to steal the win. No way to win against three.

WiFi, at last! We're at Bédoin, very busy, very windy. Walked up the Ventoux on Monday, so any motorhomes already there, a long time to wait on the side of the road, but, each to their own. Hope Le Tour livens up, it needs to, maybe tomorrow....

Don't actually remember tipping Kittel for a Tour victory! Think I just said I'm glad to see him back in action after an awful season last year. But, he's still in the race, looks gorgeous, so I'll stick with him

We've driven today along part of the route in the Ardeche, which they ride on Friday, and it's amazing just how many motorhomes, caravans and tents, already parked in every wide bit of road!  Almost everyone has a satellite dish, so I imagine they sit watching
the TV until they hear the horns of the cars, and then rush out, watch them all pass, and then back in to watch the remaining kilometres on the TV.

I think we will sit and watch it on the large screen TV in the campsite  bar, rather than run the gauntlet of traffic to try and get anywhere nearer!

Another good win for Sagan. Froome also did a great job of gaini g more time. No doubt completely against Sky team orders......excellent!

Great shame that they cannot race up Ventoux tomorrow, high winds mean they can only go about half way. So my man may have lost his chance to pull back some time Sad

IanH, Don't know what it is you have against a team that tried to fracture the opposition, as Sky did today. Perhaps it that your choise of winner is not in that team!!Wink
Where were Movistar when the final break happened. Fast asleep, as they appear to have been for the most of the race up to now, or are they just playing a waiting game?

Went to see the Tour de France today.  It was past us in a flash, but the pre 'Caravan' was interesting where various advertising vehicles threw out bits and bobs ranging from key rings to shopping bag to sweets and even small cakes etc.  We almost got hosed
with water from one of the Vittel floats!  I was a bit worried at what might be thrown at us when a float with a chicken on top passed us (thinking rotten eggs!)  I took a few photos - can't put them up at the moment though - maybe later.

They are not going to the top of Mt Ventoux today - apparently it's too windy to ride.  They're stopping about 6km from the top.

....just heard that apparently there has been a crash today.  Must have been after we saw the bikes go by... Crisp Froome still holds on to lead though.

I don't usually look on here until I've watched the highlights, but as the story was quite high up on the BBC News website, I couldn't avoid it. Looking forward to 7pm tonight!

I thought the TDF was a bike race. Froome abandoned his bike and sprinted towards the finish. Must have thought it was a triathlon.Happy

Not in keeping with the spirit of Le Tour - A bit disappointing.Frown

So, if you puncture at a crucial stage, that's just bad luck. If you go over the edge of a cliff due to no barriers.....your problem. Your handlebars snag on a bag being irresponsibly held out by a spectator......just get back on your bike and carry on.
A policeman steps out onto the finish line to take a photo and ends your final sprint hopes......and your career.......tough!

But if Chris Froome gets held up by a spectator incident.......the end of the race is neutralised. Against the published race rules.

    Disgaceful!

What's disgraceful is the organisers allowing spectators to ruin the race by blocking the road.

We were at Le Tour, today, on the climb to the finish. Total shambles, who on earth is organising this event? At least the 1K kite didn't collapse on the riders again.

We were on the D2 near Gordes, north east of Cavaillon - well before the accident.  Here are some photos:

Apart from the shambles and the final decision by the Race Commissars, it was a leading up to a great finish. Thomas de Gendt deserved his win and the Polkadot Jersey. The break by Froome, Porte and Mollema looked as if they'd got clean away and were putting quite a lot of time into the other GC contenders. Porte seems to be back to his best and should really be up to or ahead of TeeJay on time now. Can any of them pull back time on tomorrows Time Trial?

What a disgraceful day for cycling, utterly shambolic.

i am at a loss to know what the race organisers could have done regarding the result. They clearly share the bulk of the responsibility for the incident In allowing it to happen.

The best thing for the race and Chris Froone is for Froome to now distance Quintana and Yates by more than the 53s deficit he had on Yates as he crossed the line. That way, at least for Froome he can demonstrate he would have won anyway.

But a crap day for cycling.

So K I wonder if your view would be the same if a Scottish rider was involved!

Each year rhe crowds on the hills are getting worse and obviously some form of crowd control and motorcycle control will be needed.
