Isabella Awning Poles Repair

I am needing to do repairs to the frame of my 16 year old Isabella awning. I have purchased the bayonet joint that is used to "lock" the roof poles into the legs and also a new corner joint, as the spike that goes through the eyelet had snapped off the present
one. I have tried twisting the old pieces off the poles but they seem reluctant to move, they have been there sometime!


I wonder if anybody has any tips for removing them and fitting the new pieces? I wonder if it is necessary to cut them off, presuming that the poles could take up the loss in their adjustment?

Any advice would be gratefully received.
