Have I got this wrong- House Insurance

Because we don't think we will get abroad this year we decided to change our house/contents insurance. The one I found allowed a 60 day unoccupancy. I have always assumed that it meant that the longest period away was 60 days but did not include the odd weekend or short holiday. I have discovered a bit too late it applies to 60 days in total. It got me thinking that a lot of people attend rallies and, could, over the course of a year be away from home for longer than 60 days. What is your understanding of your insurance policy?
