Worst ever caravan site?
What has been the worst ever caravan / motorhome site you have stayed at?
Leaving aside camp sites for tents (which could be just a field) I'm talking about formal sites.
For us, it was possibly one in Alston in Cumbria - right on top of the Pennines.
We used it as a base when I did the Coast 2 Coast bike ride, as it seemed central. When we arrived, we drove up and down the road several times, trying to find it. Good practise for doing three point turns with the caravan.
Eventually, we decided it could only be behind the filling station on the main road, but couldn't believe anything could be down that dirt track. I went on foot and there it was. So we carefully took the caravan down there, past the scrap yard with the skip
full of slowly burning rubbish , and checked in.
The lady was very apologetic because it had rained heavily recently. She also apologised about the toilets - "we had school kids here last week".
It was mainly statics, with some people living there. The toilets and shower building was like something out of a victorian school or prison. But it did the job (not for MrsH though, she chose to use the ones in the supermarket in Keswick - the first meeting
point on the route).
It did the job for two nights and I was probably too busy risking a coronory to notice much about it at the time, but it was pretty dreadful. Pity really, because Alston itself was very pleasant......
What is your worst?
