There was a feature on this on the Jeremy Vine radio programme yesterday - a gentleman who had the disease for 4 years was interviewed.

This is something that I've only been vaguely aware of and it really brought home to me just how terrible this disease it.

Typical life expectancy is about 2 years from diagnosis. There is no cure for it. It gradually works its way through the body causing weakness and wasting of muscles and thereby 'shutting down' parts of the body (the gentleman on the programme had lost the
use of his legs, he was now losing movement in his arms, but was still able to talk - the voice is often affected).

Sensation remains, but the sufferer ends up trapped inside their own body.

This was a heart wrenching article and something that others may also know little about. I would think it will be available on iPlayer.......
