Name your caravan!
We bought our first ever caravan last August and I have been since then trying to come up with a suitable name for her.
Now I don't always name things but always remember my first car - Shenkin - with fondness. He was an ancient Ford Escort Estate in Daytona yellow (due to being an ex AA car) I bought him in 1983 with a bank loan for £500 as I was a junior at Barclays then. He was an excellent car apart from the floor being flooded when it rained but that was ok you just had to lift your feet a bit when braking as the water rushed to the front. He was named Shenkin after we saw a (young) Rob Brydon doing a sketch with his pet wasp in a matchbox and he was called Shenkin. Being wasp-like in colour, the name Shenkin was born. All my friends and family to this day still refer to him.
Anyway, I digress. What to call the newly aquired and cherished possession? Friends tried to help, to no avail although my favourite offering from them was Priscilla (Queen of the road not desert)
On our third holiday with her recently I demanded she finally be named. The next day we heard the sad news that Rik Mayall (one of my idols) had passed and I was tempted to call her Vivian after one of the Young Ones characters, this could have also been Vivienne - the prostitute from Pretty Woman (follow me, this is going somewhere) played by Julia Roberts as our caravan was, according to Steve, my husband, a hooker - you 'hook her' up behind...
Anyway, Steve thought of Brian - the snail from Magic Roundabout, as he carries his house around with him. This was a very clever idea but we decided she really is female and this wouldn't do after all, no matter how ingenious an idea.
On returning home and collecting youngest son from uni we discussed our problem with him. He instantly said 'call her Michelle then' as in I have 'me shell' on my back. Brilliant! I know the last 3 years of doing a Biology degree have paid off. We have shortened the name to Shelley and think it suits her just fine.
Anyone else named theirs something interesting?
