Storms today?

Well, the weather forecasters are predicting gales and torrential rain for today and tonight......in fact there was an 'amber warning' for heavy rain in Yorkshire.
So far we've had a light shower and it's a bit gusty.
It could get worse overnight of course, but is this the forecasters covering their backsides again, just in case it is bad?
