Parking Charges
Noticed today that the pay and display charge to park all day (11hours) at the side of the road on Marine Drive in Brighton (at the end nearest to the pier) is £16!!
Is this a record?

Go up the other end by the supermarket and shops park along side or near the Gypsies / travellers and it's free
when we ask the car park attendant he confirmed they never give them tickets" not allowed to but please don't quote me I will
get the sack " that was 3yrs ago0 -
It has been a few years since we were previously in Cornwall but what we remembered was high parking charges. This year on our re-visit, we were pleasantly surprised that the charges appear to have been reduced, generally across the county. What we did notice
though was that most public loos now charge 20p0 -
Given the amount of fuel tax plus Road Fund Licence, I am pathologically opposed to paying to park on a bit of tarmac that I've already paid for. I'll only pay to park as a last resort.

we have used the park and rides at £3 for all day and your transport there and back at a time to suit you , pretty fair I say

Much of a council's income comes from parking charges. If anybody thinks that a particular council is overcharging then the answer is straight forward. --Dont go there. There are other towns where you can shop and spend your hard earned money.

We were in Oban last week and couldn't find 'cheap' parking but was told to park up in Aldi. Checked it out - no parking notices, no gates/barriers etc and while driving round, stopped and asked 2 people who had parked and were walking out towards town.
Apparently its regularly done! Tesco down the road have cameras and 2 hr limits. Agree with cyberyacht - hate paying to park on roads that I have already paid to be on!0 -
The car park in Worthing town centre at Liverpool Gardens cost 50 pence for half an hour and you pay at exit. If you go over half an hour the price goes up to £1.10 and then there's an increasing scale of charges for longer periods of time.
You can get free parking if you park further away than the Burlington hotel but it's a long walk to the town centre from there, that's if you can find a space!

We parked on the sea front at Worthing. It cost £1 per hour. If we had parked on the adjacent side road (Stein Gardens?) it was £1.20 per hour.
We parked on Eastbourne sea front today for £1 per hour.
Most places in Frnce it is free.
Write your comments here...You were lucky to find a space, Ian. Everytime I pass by the sea front, all the parking spaces are taken. Incidentally, the Italian restaurant Brio is on the corner between the Steyne and Marine Parade and we always have difficulty
parking there. I use the loading bay outside Chatsworth Hotel as I can never find anywhere to park.0 -
Thank goodness for OAP bus passes. Saves a lot on fuel bills and parking charges.
Write your comments here...I seem to be seeing double, redface and it's not because of inebriation!
Using an OAP bus pass is not an option for me unless the customers want their food cold!

...Not everyone wants to go to France, where as it seems to try to control the large amount of people who want to be on our seafronts and other very popular areas a charge is required

Write your comments here...No its the other way round. They want to come here for their holidays. When you're here in the Worthing town centre, it seems that passers by are speaking nearly every other language except English!

Was in Brighton last weekend. But at above £3 per hour to park on Sea front, and£4 per hour in underground car park I won't be in a rush to go back. The car park doubles it's prices at the weekends. We went up to the marina, free parking had a walk round,
had some lunch and went elsewhere.0 -
Malcolm - if you are parked then surely the food will get cold - should you not be moving along at a legal speed?
Write your comments here...I have to park to collect the food from the restaurant. Sometimes it can take 20 minutes for the restaurant to cook and prepare the order. My wife collects the food whilst I stay in the car and move if a traffic warden appears.
It's also necessary to park somewhere once a delivery is completed whilst waiting for the next order to come through.

You can park for free up near the Leisure Centre and walk down into the town.

though was that most public loos now charge 20pThe loo is very cheap. I remember visiting right up in the north of Scotland (Kyle of Lochalsh) back in 1993 and was charged 20p to use the loos then (it seemed expensive so that's why I remember). But yes, I think parking charges are ridiculous. At Tameside
Hospital near Manchester blue badgeholders are charged £2+ close to the main entrance, whereas if you go down the hill (about 150 yards), its £1.50. So OH visits Manchester Royal Infirmary where its free all day0
