Noticed today that the pay and display charge to park all day (11hours) at the side of the road on Marine Drive in Brighton (at the end nearest to the pier) is £16!!

Is this a record?

Thanks Ruby, but I wasn't trying to park. We always walk in, but we happened to notice.

We went to Brighton some years ago but didn't stay as the parking was excessive so went to spend the day elsewhere.

Given the amount of fuel tax plus Road Fund Licence, I am pathologically opposed to paying to park on a bit of tarmac that I've already paid for. I'll only pay to park as a last resort.

It is probably another way of stopping m/vans from filling up the seafronts and as has happened elsewhere the councils getting a lot of complaints,

Much of a council's income comes from parking charges. If anybody thinks that a particular council is overcharging then the answer is straight forward. --Dont go there. There are other towns where you can shop and spend your hard earned money.

We were in Oban last week and couldn't find 'cheap' parking but was told to park up in Aldi. Checked it out - no parking notices, no gates/barriers etc and while driving round, stopped and asked 2 people who had parked and were walking out towards town.
Apparently its regularly done! Tesco down the road have cameras and 2 hr limits. Agree with cyberyacht - hate paying to park on roads that I have already paid to be on!

The car park in Worthing town centre at Liverpool Gardens cost 50 pence for half an hour and you pay at exit. If you go over half an hour the price goes up to £1.10 and then there's an increasing scale of charges for longer periods of time.

You can get free parking if you park further away than the Burlington hotel but it's a long walk to the town centre from there, that's if you can find a space!

We parked on the sea front at Worthing. It cost £1 per hour. If we had parked on the adjacent side road (Stein Gardens?) it was £1.20 per hour.

We parked on Eastbourne sea front today for £1 per hour.

Most places in Frnce it is free.

Write your comments here...You were lucky to find a space, Ian. Everytime I pass by the sea front, all the parking spaces are taken. Incidentally, the Italian restaurant Brio is on the corner between the Steyne and Marine Parade and we always have difficulty
parking there. I use the loading bay outside Chatsworth Hotel as I can never find anywhere to park.

Using an OAP bus pass is not an option for me unless the customers want their food cold!

Was in Brighton last weekend. But at above £3 per hour to park on Sea front, and£4 per hour in underground car park I won't be in a rush to go back. The car park doubles it's prices at the weekends. We went up to the marina, free parking had a walk round,
had some lunch and went elsewhere.

Write your comments here...I have to park to collect the food from the restaurant. Sometimes it can take 20 minutes for the restaurant to cook and prepare the order. My wife collects the food whilst I stay in the car and move if a traffic warden appears.

It's also necessary to park somewhere once a delivery is completed whilst waiting for the next order to come through.

You can park for free up near the Leisure Centre and walk down into the town.

The loo is very cheap.  I remember visiting right up in the north of Scotland (Kyle of Lochalsh) back in 1993 and was charged 20p to use the loos then (it seemed expensive so that's why I remember).  But yes, I think parking charges are ridiculous.  At Tameside
Hospital near Manchester blue badgeholders are charged £2+ close to the main entrance, whereas if you go down the hill (about 150 yards), its £1.50.  So OH visits Manchester Royal Infirmary where its free all dayHappy
