Whale Smartflo UV0814 - Intermittent Operation

I have a Whale Smartflo Inboard Pump (Model UV0814) fitted to my Bailey Senator Wyoming (2010). I have noticed it occasionally operates for several seconds when no taps are turned on. This in itself is not too much of a problem, but does wear thin when it
operates during the night. I can't see any obvious leaks in the system that would cause the pressure drop and the pump to kick in.

What I am more concerned about are incidences of it running very quietly when no taps are on - best described as a "tickover" mode. This is usually un-noticeable if it happens in the day, but in the night it's a pain. The only way of stopping it is to switch
off the pump entirely, or to run a tap for a short time. I am led to belive that these pumps can run dry with no damage - so no problem there. My main concern is that when not connected to an EHU, this could cause problematic battery drain.

Has anyone else experienced this problem, and suggest a cause and solution please?
