can my vw golf tow?

Hi im new to caravaning and my husband had bought us out first starter caravan, I have looked on line but im really confused to whether my husband ok to tow on his licence and whether my car us ok to tow it? He serms to think he is but wanted to know if
theres anyone that cud answer this for my jn a simple terms x I have a 2000 vw golf 1.9 GT TDI 115bhp and our caravan is a small 4 berth 1986 lunar clubman, he only past his test in 2006 so has a b+b1 licence.  I understand its all about weight but im just
