Giving up towing

We would like to give up towing as my husband now finds it very tiring (health issues) but would still like to enjoy the lifestyle, we cannot make up our minds about permanenty siting or having a small campervan which we feel will be very clausrtophobic
or possibly having a folding camper.  Would be interested in hearing from anyone who has had same problem.
