Pure sine wave inverter
I am looking in to getting a solar panel etc to put on my M/H , 140w panel and 2 120amp battery's , the question I have is .....do I need a pure sine wave inverter , I would be using a microwave ,TV ,sky box etc , not an electric kettle as we are going to
use the gas
without out getting all technical ,what is the difference between a pure sine wave and a modified one ,

Hi Husky, will I do? As you will know, I have a similar set up with 135W SP 2 x 110ah batts and my 2000w PSW inverter. Firstly, it all depends what you are going to run off it. Most electrical items will run perfectly well of Modified Sine Wave but I just didn't want the hassle of finding out if sensitive equipment would run on it so I got a PSW and that stops all the faffing. The reason I got a 2k one is that with Microwave, Toaster and 240v Vacuum I wanted it to have plenty of spare capacity so there was never a problem with worrying about whether it was big enough to handle the job I gave it and although it's mounted on a heatsink it has never even got warm so that tells you something.I don't run 2 items at the same time but I could. I have never had a problem. As far as the sine wave is concerned, The difference is I believe, and I stand to be corrected, but the PSW produces a sine wave with a perfect curve top and bottom like a sound wave. The Modified is more of a square type wave and therefore not acceptable to some 'gadgets'. I bought mine from Falcon Security at the National a couple of years ago and has proved great. Make sure you have some way of 'killing the system' after you have used it as it will continue to draw a little power just being on. I kill mine through a 12v illuminated switch to a solenoid and that ensures no power drain. I situated it in a very easy place so it is almost remote control! Reading the 'How to survive a non EHU site' thread in the Tips for making Caravanning cheaper section' is a must!!

Hi Merve, yes of course you will do , as said I only plan to use a microwave and TV , we've already thrown the electric kettle away and
like yourself would rather fit " more than is needed" to allow room to add more items at a later date , now to start at the " how to servive " thread0 -
Good idea mate. It's full of useful tips and experiences from tightarses like me who have discovered that caravanning really can be as comfortable as it ever was with an expensive cablle stuck in the side of the van or M/H and can be a third of the price! non EHU camping is now a real and growing alternative. I wouldn't go back to the orange umbilical cord now. Good idea to fit 'over capacity'. Find out if your TV ( I run an AVTEX on 12 volt and it works perfectly) and microwave can work on MSW and if they do, go for it but I haven't got to think about it when I introduce anything new. It's already PSW. By the way, I found a guy who really knew his stuff and got him to fit the whole system. Worth his weight in gold! Just a thought.
