Electric Hookup at Home to keep Battery Charged

I am fortunate that I can store my caravan in my garden.

Rather than remove the battery to charge it I simply hookup to the mains electric at home and leave it on. I have until now left it on throughout the winter but have now thought that this may be placing undue wear and tear on the onboard charger. Does anyone
else leave their van permanently connected to the mains in this way? Is this something I should be doing?
