to the Weymouth area , so if anyone has any carpark tips ,greatly recived....

    Husky, from Graham's www.motorhomeparking.co.uk website page.....Dorset, Weymouth...

"Parking Page is hosted by Dorset County Council (see entry above); Park
    & Ride Page
. Mentions motorhomes. Statement received 11 December 2015: "Motorhomes are permitted in all Weymouth and Portland car parks. If taking up more than one bay then all bays must be paid for. Coaches/Lorry Bays - Coaches bring large numbers
of people to our area who would otherwise be unable to come. They can only fit in a very limited number of spaces throughout our area. Lorries serve the business community and once again there is very limited parking in some of our towns for larger vehicles.
By providing a variety of different parking spaces Weymouth and Portland Borough Council aims to serves the needs of as many visitors, residents and businesses as it can."

Most car parks in tourist spots have a notice that tells motorhomers what to do. It is usually you pay for whatever bays you occupy - so if you park in two, you pay for two. You must get two tickets eg two tickets for one hour each, not one ticket for two
hours and display both. Beware though that you remain within the marked bay lines fore and aft otherwise you may be occupying 4 spaces and will have to pay for four.

Some ban motorhomes or vehicles over a certain size/weight.

If there are places we intend visiting, we look at the car park internet site for the area and perhaps email the appropriate authority for advice or ring them when we turn up at the car park. We then stick the response, assuming its positive, on the dashboard
so the parking wardens can read it. For example, one National Park charges £4.50 per bay for the day. It also uses a field with no marked bays. The NP emailed me to say Motorhomers can either pay £9 if they occupy two bays or £4.50 if they use the field.

Don't be tempted to reverse in and overhang pavements - you can get done for that. Most car parks allow you to overhang grass areas but there's always going to be the ccasional parking warden that doesn't think you can.

Husky,  Where are you staying in Dorset? a lot of the area is well served with public transport, which is what we tended to use,if you venture to Poole there is an area on the big  car park on the harbourside that is set aside for M/vans ,(but it is very
popular)and sometimes workers vans will use it,

Husky ,not being personal but is the scooter large?,The Station at Moreton(crossways) is near the site (even nearer from c&cc site)and although it is unstaffed both  have step free access, and the trains are direct to Weymouth ,Dorchester (great market rubbish parking on that day), Bourmouth,Poole, not sure of Buses but they should all be small mobility scooter friendly

The same problem i had when the 'Smart' was on an " A " frame behind the "Autocruise".Taking up two bays ,meant paying for two.If you don't pay then the council are loosing revenue because other vehicles are not able to park.

Thanks JV, we have been to this site a few times , and we use it as a "bolthole" so we know the site well ,but allways had the car to use , so didn't need to worry about carpark height barriers etc

Thanks for all the info ,i will look at the parking website and do some homework....

I  used  to have  this  situaton  with my  late  father  --  I  would  take  him  to  his  Pensioners  Club,  help  him  in  then  go  &  do  my  own  thing  for  a couple  of  hours.

Later  I  would  return  &  park  up,  display  the  Blue  Badge,  then  stroll  to  where-ever  he  was,  collect  him  &  we'd  very,  very  slowly  walk  back.  On  the  few  times  I was  spoken  to  about  this  I  had  to point  out  that  the  Badge
is for  the  convenience/help  of  the  Badge  Holder   not  necessarily  the  driver !  I've  got  the  same  situation  now  but  with  my  Aged  sister  --  fortunately  she's  more  than  capable  of  making  the  point  herself
    Wink

As  for  the  carparks,  wherever  I  can  I park  my  PVC    at  the  extreme  edge  of  the  park  but  if  its got  a  grass  verge  the  tail  end {  sorry  pup Innocent
}  is  hung  over  the  grass  !

When we stayed there we used the park and ride to go into Weymouth with our M/H, it was very efficient, loads of parking and cheap... It was when the olympics were on but wouldn't Imagine it would alter that much.

P&R buses don't transport mobility scooters.  In fact I'm not sure that any buses do.

..All the Buses in our area are small mobility scooter friendly they fit where the wheelchair position is,and Cambridge P&R  buses accept them

Pretty sure that's the same here, pushchairs and wheelchairs are allowed why not small mobility scooters.

Have to say one of the reasons we tow my car on an A frame in the UK is because of parking restrictions, we have a Bailey so would probably need 4 parking tickets due to its widthFrown

Lots of good advice here Husky, especially from the locals, the Dorset Council Parking info is very good. The only thing I'd add is Weymouth can be
very busy so get there early. An alternative day out if you don't want the shops and beach is Portland Bill with a big open grassy car park overlooking the bay plus a cafe and pub near the lighthouse. Hope it all goes well, have a good time. Smile

Yes it's at the end but there's a wide path and the grassy headland is easy to access with plenty of parking. You'd be fine with your M/H especially with everything on board for a day out. Smile

There's plenty of parking for a MH up on the Bill, Husky. You can go beyond the lighthouse and park up with a view over Chesil Beach. No parking charge, no hassle, no problems. It's very high up so is quite a steep road to get there but it's very doable.

Husky, no problem with using the blue badge with your motorhome, i have one and use it.  Don't know how it works if you're too long for the bay.  We have a 6m pvc so just fits.

Thanks DD, I checked later on google and remembered the tarmac area. Embarassed I was trying to think of easy access with the mobility scooter for Mrs Husky. There's the sculpture park too, so as you say, other good places.

Stay at Martleaves Farm and walk into Weymouth or get the bus - bus stop is a few minutes walk from the gate and you can buy day tickets.

I tried parking at the back of the Condor Ferry terminal!

Just come back from being away.

First of all thanks to BoleroBoy for the mention of the web site.

Secondly all I would add to what others have said are a couple of general points:

    1. Make sure that use of multiple bays is allowed in advance as many councils don't allow it and

    2. If in doubt whether parking in a particular manner is allowed, assume not and check rather than get a ticket
    Smile
