Punch and Judy being banned
The children's puppet show in being banned because some people think it is subversive. --- No doubt Tom and Jerry will be next.

Thats a good point, Rocky. Clowns are weird and coulrophobia is the official name given to clown phobia. I wonder if that includes P&J? Hateful creatures are P&J and I never understood it. As a child I found them scary.

As usual with one of K's post you should always look for the whole truth. P&J is not being banned, Barry council who were paying £2500 for a local festival including this particular show is withdrawing its funding for this show as it (according to them) goes against the council's view on domestic violence. I can't find any mention of subversive K, perhaps you could point us in the direction of where you found this claim?
If you agree with the council not paying for a P&J show or not is another discussion but P&J is not 'banned' it is just not being paid for. Surley the organisation who is paying for something should be able to say what it want it's money spent on? (note the question mark)

Well anyway, whatever, please do not contact the World's press that I took away the grandson's toy cars because they were about to bash each other over their heads with them, as I wish to get the caravan out of storage and pack it up. We're off to Hereford
on Wednesday, and do not want to leave the country0 -
There are many, many individuals that need to take a reality check, as has oft been said-'it's a forum, not real life'

Write your comments here... Could not agree more. There's much more to life that spending all day on a forum. My advice --- Get outdoors and enjoy nature, speak to real people, instead of cyber individuals, just use forums as an interest while having a cuppa.

ps.---People could even go down't beach and enjoy sun, sand, sea and a Punch and Judy show. (If they've not all been banned already)

...Again it is necessary to put this into context as mentioned by Cornerstone above. If you look at the history of P&J you will see that In 1947, the Middlesex County Council in England banned Punch and Judy from schools, prompting wide outcry from Punch fans and his eventual reinstatement. The political correctness Kennine blames for this ban in Barry was hardly an issue in 1947.... More than 50 years later, in 1999 and 2000, other councils in Britain considered banning Punch and Judy shows on the claim that they were too violent for children; they didn’t, but it was close.
