looking to arrange our next couple of trips and looking at some site reviews , WHY do they always mention about the toilet block and not much else ???, it seems that some members drive hundreds of miles just to rate the toilets out of 10

i want to know about what is to see and visit in the area and how close shops are or public transport ,or are some members doing a survey of public conveniences

Obviously some people think it's important. When I read a review I want to know about the site and it's cleanliness. I will have researched the area I'm visiting in advance.

Most of what is on in area is normally on numerous websites, as what one person would think was what they wanted to see and do in a area, would be completly a no go area for others, I would rather get an over view of the site from sensible reviews ,not the
ones who have had a "bad" stay

If it's a Club site the facilities should be a given so I would agree. With a motorhome I value comments about distance from nearest Supermarket, town, bus service etc.

If you go to the site information leaflet for each site,  it will as far as I know when we need to know anything locally give that info

it is a site review after all, if I'm going to  new hotel that I haven't been to before I usually want a review of the hotel itself before deciding to go there. The surrounding area is usually chosen before the site.

Are these Club Sites HD? Once you have been to a couple they don't really vary from site to site, but the surroundings and things to do are just as important. The toilet blocks are the most boring part I agree. All the same, same cubicles, hair dryers, wash cubicles, little shelf, strange squeegee, hand dryers, lots of corporate notices, and unless they have now worn out after 30 years, little" now wash your hands" stickers on the back of the toilet doors,..........and usually beige. Beige is the overriding colour memory of Club Sites. Except that site in Dorset with the Earth closets, that's a bit different!Happy

My all time favourite reviews are the one's complaining about aircraft noise at that London site, near some airport or other, Gatwick I think! Absolute hoot!

I like reading Club Site reviews, find one or two an absolute hoot to be honest, especially the rants. Say more about the reviewer than the sites!Happy You
have to read between the lines though.

Where you looking to stay, close to home or a tad further afield? I don't know South East at all, so no help from me I'm afraid.

maybe beacuse they are? I've been to a few, not many non club sites and the staff just aren't as good, in my experince of course. Also they take such a lot of bashing on here perhaps its to let them know what people think of them?

We are currently researching a foreign holiday and I have absolutely no interest in how nice the hotel manager is - I would even welcome a Basil Fawlty type!

Ah, then I may be able to help, especially with Dales. I know of a very nice CL, with showers and loos, HS, EHU. Not brilliant dog walking from site, but you have the whole of the Dales on your doorstep! Close to Skipton, which is a gorgeous place, fairytale
castle, brilliant pubs and great shops! Have a look at Seat House CL. You might be able to find my review if you look back a bit!Happy

really? bad tempered staff would affect my holiday and if too many complained on a review site I would certainly think of not going there. Why go to be upset?

It seems to me that as I have never been upset by CC staff I would presume anyone offended might have brought a reprimand on themselves and taken offence

We used to have a paper folder with a page about each site - it rated aspects important to us out of 10 and then an overall. The toilets and showers were on there and also the wardens.  We note down the name of wardens too.

I rarely review but would comment on all of those plus dog walks off the site etc because they are important to me so I would think they might be to others. The location of the supermarket would go in too but  I have no interest in where the bus stop is - or even if there is one - as it has never been something we have used so it doesnt interest us (even when we had a motorhome).

The review reflects what is important to you - what you personally  would want to know about if you were thinking of visiting so clearly cleanliness etc is important to most folk.

I've met a few bolshy ones but they're very much in the minority. Try telling them it's perfectly acceptable to park nose in and a few will develop apoplexy.

What you want in a review is a matter of your opinion. Anything that might be useful to some people is valid. Reporting on one off things like a party in tbe next field is irrelevant and should not be there. I would not criticise someone commenting on the
toilet facilities as it is important to some people although not us.

As I mainly use CL sites I always value the reviews, sometimes you can get information that is not relevant to you but rather that than no review at all.Smile

The ones that frustrate me are when a member raves about the site giving five stars for everything and has only stayed for one night and then says, “this is my first time on a CL”.Sealed

I often find site leaflets quite limiting in the information they include especially if you are a motorhomer. When I contribute reviews I hopefully cover the whole aspect of the site and what is around and about although I rarely comment on wardens as often
the only contact with them is when I check in and as nice as they might be that is part of their job and should not require comment.

Hawes is a great site for a MH, short walk into village for shops,  pubs, cheese factory etc.  There are busses going thru, not sure where to as we had a caravan when we visited. There is a rope makers in the village and a museum of dales life. Excellent
location for numerous walks from site and the drive thru WensleyDale is beautiful.  Stop at the falls on the way through to save going back then on to the lakes...

Can't comment on the warden (or any other) as we only check in and don't have a need to pal up with them except of course to point out other members who have not parked to the peg,  speeding or have their awning heater on. Toilets the usual CC standard,
    overheated and smelly.

Reviews need to be factual and objective rather than subjective. It is unlikely that they will cover a specific area of interest for any given member. Non-dog owners are never likely to comment on the dog walk - what makes a good one anyway? Perhaps we should
ask the dog? Proximity of transport links, shops, caravan dealers and possibily the ability to walk from the site on a pavement seem the most useful to be commented on.  A porcelain museum, as an example, is a specialist interest and perhaps is not appropriate
    for a review.
