Electrical Mover Wiring Safety

On the “Ask your Club” page of the May magazine the poor standard of an Electrical Mover Wiring installation was highlighted.

Since then my caravan has been serviced by a MCEA Approved Workshop Mobile Engineer, and he raised the exact same problem of poorly installed caravan mover cables in the battery box, only in my case the problem is even more serious.

The fitter has also installed the fuse for the caravan mover in the battery box.

If the fuse was to blow in this small space when it was filled with gas after charging the battery, an explosion and fire could occur.

The caravan mover was installed by a very large dealer in Somerset, who is listed as an Approved Workshop and carry the club logo on their web site.

I had mistakenly assumed by buying my caravan and having the work carried out by such a company, I would get the job carried out correctly and safely.

Apparently not, and this experience really raises questions as to how good the inspection regime of the Approved Workshop scheme really is.

I would urge all members to check their installations before next going out in their van to make sure you are safe.

Have other members had the same problem?
