Grey spots

Anyone have any tips on easily removing those grey spots on front of van  please

    Holmes

    After a journey when caravan has had its fair share of bad road and weather conditions .

    one is left with these light grey spots that are extremely difficult to remove.

    Are the grey spots you refer to caused by your exhaust throwing out soot or burnt oil?

    Have you tried washing then polishing the front panel ?

    This problem has been raised before on here and many other places on the web.  I had a similar problem on a previous caravan.  I tried all sorts to clean the grey spots off to no avail.  It turned out that the spots were in the moulding.  I did know the
    details of what the cause was, but that was over ten years ago.  I certainly hope that I'm not the bringer of bad tidings and you find a remedy for your particular problem.

    During a long wet and windy journey down to Devon a couple of years ago my car (petrol) kindly deposited all manor of greasy exhaust muck onto the front of my caravan.

    At the time I was really worried that it would not come off however, my trusty bottle of Greased Lightning Showroom Shine cleaned it all off with ease.

    Is it worth fitting an extension pipe which fixes onto the end of your exhaust pipe and curves downwards, available at car accessory shops. It might deflect any exhaust smut down and away from the van's surface, if that is the cause !

    Just had an email.off the service centre where I take my caravan .

    Brake cleaner believe it or not 

    Spray on wipe off with clean cloth .......

    Ah!  Now I remember the brake cleaner trick employed some years ago to remove a mark from caravan upholstery.  It seemed to do the trick at the time.  Don't know what it's like now though......  Someone stole the van!

    Try Faracla its a cutting paste so go steady and be sure to polish after cutting . Google will provide details of product and how to use.

    Sounds a bit extreme. WD40 is efficacious for a multitude of tasks.

    This is becoming an obsession now !

    As I am in southern France at the moment enjoying glorious weather and being me I normally have most things to hand ,This time I have no wd40 .

    I did try it at home on a small patch with limited success. But was worried about effect on surface .

    Still hard work ,also silky clean gave limited success. 

    Out of all the potions lotions and possibly illegal substances at my immediate disposal. 

    Fly spray has seemed the most successful, not removing completely but taking dark stains to a much lighter stain.

    I think the next step is via a chandler to see if they have some kind of cut and polish that would work.

    I think an end pipe diverting down on the exhaust would only have limited success as traveling at speed the crap coming out of exhaust would still travel back to van .

    I do have an 12 year old 2.7 diesel tug but it just flew through mot 

    This maybe a long and drawn out affair. 

    Spending days cleaning front panel then polishing and polishing and polishing etc.etc.

    Then ignore OH and buy a front towing cover

    My grab handles became very grubby, some was mold. I used a bit of milton and they cleaned up nicely

    Marks are 80% faded now after using silky clean and lots of elbow grease.

    Hopefully Our Glorious British Summer sun will help bleach out what is left .

    And I think a front cover for me .
