Paint Removal

Hi. I have just had a townar fitted and the towball has a layer of black paint on it. I understand that as I have an Alko hitch/stabiliser I need to remove the paint. Can anyone advise me of the best way to remove this paint and does it have to be removed
completely or does it matter if there are any bits left on it? Any help/tips would be appreciated.
