Petrol or Diesel

I drive a Toyota Avensis I.8 CVT Auto (10plate).I use it mainly for local running about and towing my caravan two or three times a year..I am thinking about upgrading to a latter model next year and fancy a Avensis 2.2 diesel Auto. My Question is would I
be looking for dpf trouble if I use as Diesel for a  local runabout, How do you get on using a Diesel for locol trips. Thanks
