Toyota CVT Gearbox

I use a Toyota Avensis 1.8 54 reg to tow a Ranger 460/2.which is fine  I am considering upgrading to the new model Avensis.1.8. Has anyone used this car with the automatic CVT gearbox for towing. I do a about 10,000 mile a year with about 700 miles towing
and consider the petrol engine better for such a low mileage
