Just starting to do a cost estimate for a three week trip to France starting mid June 2017. Does anyone on CT have any idea what the Euro exchange rate may be by then?

I didn't go this year but back in June 2015 it was €1.37 / £1.00 now it is something like €1.10, a difference of +25% - at the moment.

If I was a betting man I'd say around 1.15-1.18. It depends if any of the PIGS do a Gadarene swine impersonation before then.

I'd guess about 1.20 because by then there will be some clarity in the Brexit deal.

By the way, based on your exchange rates, that's a actually a drop in value of 19.7%

Last year the euro was low against the pount, about 75p. The year before it was high against the pount, about 86p and at one point was suspected of approaching parity. So relative to a couple of years ago the current change is not so great.

At the moment the money market moguls are just playing. The excrement will collide with the ventilator when the result is announced for the Americans' coming election. Sterling could become a very good proposition then.

Even at 1 euro to the £, it will be cheaper than staying in UK as far as sites and fuel go.

Oddly enough I've just spent a couple of hours researching sites down to Ile d'oleron and back as the Clubs Venture Abroad book has just dropped through the letter box! I guess it's going to cost us a few more bob than we thought!

Even with the rate around 1for 1 we would take our usual three weeks in France because overall the holiday would still be better value than here in the UK. If you only concentrate on cost you would never buy a caravan!

Plan on parity of the pund and euro as worst case - it may not go that bad but at least if it does you wont have any nasty surprises.

Safest bet is to hope for parity with the pound!!! That's what I intend to do anyway.

From the various discussions the final 'deal' is quite possibly years ahead and, by then, my age could cancel out trips over the Channel with the van!!

My crystal ball is not of the remoaner type and believe that if it was just an economic judgement then it will be over €1.30 to the £. I would elucidate but would probably get a spankingSurprisedWink

All part of the start of negotiations, Rocky.

You don't get the best deal on a car by marching onto the forecourt saying 'what lovely cars, I really want to buy one today' do you?

Depends also on inflation here, how much you've got left over each month (or not) and whether you top up with savings which are decreasing in general terms. Basically. a devalued pound and inflation is going to make it more expensive here and abroad.

In other words, who knows.....Happy Sad

    Hello John

Many thanks for raising this question.  Obviously I can’t predict what exchange rate you will get for your euros on the high street, I can however let you know that at the Caravan Club we have already secured our euros at 1.25 euros to the pound until the
end of 2017.  This means that we are able to give our members a more competitive price when booking an overseas site through the club.

I hope you have a good trip to France in June, if we can be of any help please do contact us in overseas sites.

    Regards

    Sarah

The great beauty about France is that it is such a short distance to so many other countries!
