Site warders (or should that be wardens)

Why are some site wardens so unfriendly. I am paying over £30 a night for the privilege of staying on a club site but after a long journey I am greeted with. 

" membership card" barked out across the desk. Not good afternoon, how was your trip, welcome to .....

just a little polite friendliness is all I ask. 

Has anyone else experienced this. If doing this job makes you so miserable , then don't do it.
