Has anyone had the faulty ignition switch replaced yet. I have contacted my local fiat professional and they have ordered the replacement for me but tell me there is a 'back order' on the item so it could take some time. In the meantime is it safe to drive
the motorhome ? If not how do I get the motorhome to the fiat professional for the work to be done? What is the status of my insurance since I am knowlingly driving an unsafe vehicle on the road.? Any experiences would be welcome.

    Brian Hi

I received a safety recall letter from Auto-Trail. The fault affects vehicles built between October 2014 and June 2015 and there is apparently a possibility that the ignition may switch itself off while the vehicle is running

I understand the affected vehicles from Auto-Trail have chassis numbers in the range 2729501 to 2904391 but I further undetstand that ALL ducato based vehicles are also affected.

The DVSA also has details. Try

Got a letter on Monday 8th Feb. Rang local Fiat dealer and booked in for check on Tuesday 9th (five minute job to make sure they were ordering the correct switch). Part ordered and delivered to dealer on Thursday 11th. Now booked in for work on Thursday
18th (at my convenience). I think this is quite good service.

Does anyone have a definitive answer to ccmember's question re the insurance (and legal) aspects of continuing to drive a vehicle subject to a safety recall? I ask the question as  my local Fiat agent has been waiting for over 3 weeks for delivery of the
replacement part with still no indication as to when it might be delivered and I am due to leave in 10 days time for Spain.

In instances of recall, if there is a significant danger then the notice will reflect that. If not, then you are expected to make the arrangements, within reason, as soon as you possibly can. Once notified, the onus is on you mind! Insurance companies are aware of this and would expect you to follow the detail in the recall notice! VOSA are also notified of all recalls and the details are logged with them.

When I emailed my insurance company about the status of my insurance policy this was the reply I received...

"We can confirm that although your vehicle has been subject to a safety recall, this will not have any impact on your Motor Insurance Policy."

Write your comments here...But the vehicles that make up the Majority of M/V base eg Fiat/Peugeot/Citroen are all made at the Fiat plant,

As the Vauxhall/Citreon/Nissan vans are all made at Luton,

The 2.2 engines in most vehicles are all Dagenaham built
