Truma gas heater
I had my caravan serviced mid winter time. Every month since then, I have made a point of opperating the Trauma heater (using the liesure battery - not EHU). It usually lights after a few attempts but today I could not get it to ignite. The gas is reaching
the cooker so I presume that it reaches the heater. Do I need to opperate it more frequently or is it possible that a componant may need replacing? All answers greatfully recieved.

can you hear the ignitor working?(assuming it is auto ignition!) If not ,check the AA battery at the base of the heater.....service people do not tend to replace it if it is working at service time!In fact I have seen the original battery in place after
6/7 years!)0 -
Ds. It is not auto ignition and I am told by the person that sevices the caravan that there is no battery. Does this make sense to you? p.s. Cannot hear the ignitor working.

Yes,it is manual ignition and no battery. The ignitor should "click" when you press it down. Can you see a spark in the little window(difficult to see in daylight)? It is possible that one of the leads has become detached from the ignitor....remove front case
and check.0 -
Will give it a try tomorrow and let you know the result. Thanks very much for your help.

I had a similar problem with my Truma heater. I eventually found that the peizzo spark was weak which was caused by a poor earth connexion to the igniter. I gleaned the following info from somewhere [can't remember where] and cleaned the areas mentioned
and also added an extra earth wire from the heater body to the heater outer casing. This seemed to cure the problem. If this fails then try changing the peizzo igniter press button unit."If it's piezo manual ignition, the first thing to check is the 'earth' spring wire attached to the base plate at the side of the gas valve, is touching the metal fire front when the front is in position.
Think of the piezo as a battery, it needs a positive and a negative connection to work, this spring is the negative connection and completes the circuit back to the piezo. Not so obvious is the 'spring' wire that comes from the floor plate at the side of the gas valve and hooks over the same metal rod that clips the fire front too the aluminium surround at the back.
This is very often bent out the way and will need bending into the right sort of shape to do it's job...that's after you have found it??"squip

Squip. That was very informative and has given me food for thought as have the other replies. Thank you very much.
