Bikes! Time this Problem was Sorted Out!
We have just returned from the Jubilee Week at the Winchester Morn Hill Site.
As this was also half-term, the site was busy and there were quite a few families. Although there is no play area, the children were no problem except one very selfish minority. The bike riders
Our pitch was on an island with about 20 vans on, ie. there was a a perimeter road around us. Throughout the week we had to suffer almost constant bike riders around the island from 10 in the morning 'til 9.30 at night. The riders were children from 5
or 6 years old up to teenagers. One of whom not only constantly circled us but also took short cuts between the vans. This on one occasion at 9.30pm when the light was fading.
On several other occasions we saw a girl of no more then 10 riding a bike with a younger girl sat on the carrier!
Frequently you could see the riders going the opposite way to the one-way signs.
On one evening, I saw another club member raising this problem with a member of the warden staff and I was surprised to hear the member of staff say that we should speak to the bike riders as we were the members! In other words he regarded this matter as
not one for the staff to deal with.
I know that there is a notice at most if not all club sites saying that the riding of bycycles around the toilet blocks is not permitted. Does this then mean that it is perfectly permissable to ride a bicycle anywhere else on the site?
Before anyone starts saying that we are spoil-sports and intolerant of children, we brought up two children and had them with us on CC sites but we did not allow them to annoy other members.
It is time that this problem is addressed before someone is seriously hurt (if this has not already happened).
I for one am really not prepared to spend a week in the middle of a cycle track! So Caravan Club, do something about it!
