Old Alko stabiliser hitch, still ok?

Hello again!

My 1997 Elddis has an original Alko stabiliser, this seems to be an early one perhaps of the time. The type where you turn a wheel to tighten it up?

Watching the 'Caravan Channel' our good TV friend John Wittersham mentioned that this is something he would change when purchasing a second hand model of that year, although he did not mention why!

Would anyone know why you would replace this with a newer one, and is the original safe to use as we don't intend to pay anymore money on our caravan until after the holiday season!
