Rear boxes and light boards

My son has just bought a rear box for his RV.  I mentioned that as it protruded beyond the bumper line it would maybe need a light board with number plate.  Can anyone throw some light (ugh!) on the subject please.

    Less than 1 metre: No requirement

    1m – 2m: Render clearly visable (ie- red ribbons, high vis vest, etc) “Clearly visible within a reasonable distance to a person using the road”

    2m – 3.05: Rear marker board required

    You only need a light board if you are carrying something ( Bikes ) that obstruct the view of the rear number plate or lights.
