Parking for Motorhomes

I have tried to find a discussion on this, but see none in 23 pages, so I shall start one!

I am a trailer caravanner, but having owned tallish 4x4s for years, a VW camper and having been prevented from parking somewhere en route by height bars when towing, I am conscious of the difficulties you motorhomers have with parking your vehicles.

There is a debate going on in Shropshire at the moment because many council parking charges have been revised in an effort to encourage shoppers and so parking is under the spotlight.

I did a spot check of the main Park and Ride facilities around Shrewsbury recently and noted that all of them have 2m height bars. Shrewsbury being quite reliant on tourism, I wondered just how many visitors don't bother to come into to the town because
the only places to park a MH are out of town supermarket car parks which are less than ideal.

I thought of writing to my local representatives and the council about this, if it will be of any use, but I need some ammunition.

Which brings me to the questions (eventually):

Just how many motorhomers are there in the Club and even in the country? How many tourists might we be driving away from our towns because of lack of parking? Can we afford to deny this group of consumers convenient access when many shops are closing, in
this economic climate?

I would be interested in any comments.

Best wishes
