Awning / non awning pitches

Hi all,

 I was planning a few days away in January, however there are only awning pitches available. I don't intend to use the awning this time, and have read in the rules that it is acceptable to pitch on a awaning pitch without using one. 

Is this generally accepted in the community? Although the rules says its ok, I didn't want to be frowned upon arrival!
