Battery life without hookup

We've just traded up our 2005 van for a new one. While arranging a couple of upgrades - twin water barrel connections and a 12 v socket for our solar panel, the workshop manager mentioned that 'modern' vans are very power hungry and will flatten the battery
in 5 to 7 days without mains hookup. An unhappy situation, particularly if you use a motor mover. We periodically attend events where there is no mains hookup - how do regular rally attenders fare? Jenny
