Earwigs

Hi all, can anyone advise if they have ever experienced a problem with earwigs on their awning.  We put up our new air awning this week end.  It was only up for one night due to the bad weather but when we took it down it was covered in earwigs. Is this
a problem with air awnings or the nylon type ones?  We have only ever had the traditional fabric type awnings in the past and apart from finding one or two in the folds this has never been a problem. This new awning had about 40 (not exaggerating) in it. 
Been to the site before and not had this problem. Hopefully it was one off. Any ideas?
