Hi Folks,

Only recently joined the Caravan Club and would appreciate some advice on surge protectors.

We're helping at an event in May and have been told we can connect to a large commercial size generator for power. My query is the need for a surge protector and any recommendations please ?

Many thanks in advance

Dave

It depends if you are plugging into a 16amp socket?  I volunteer at an light aircraft rally and I hire in large  3 phase generators with a dedicated ditrubution board.  Each socket should have its own 16mamp RCD like you would find on a campsite.

Cheers PWLawence. I'm guessing it will be like you said.

    Many thanks.

If its a large diesel with an electronic governor I wouldn't bother with surge protection but I would check the phase to neutral voltage as I known the phase and neutrals get crossed at these events and blow equipiment up when it gets 415v instead of 240v.

Is it one organised by the caravan club?
