Too many awning heaters?  Maybe they should be banned :giggler:.

Write your comments here...That's quite some consumption.....sorry assumption. Majority on site are camper vans and of the remaining caravans; only a few have awnings.

So, a different reason must apply.

We had this problem on a site in France - fridge turned itself off and showed an error message. The electrical supply looked rather antiquated. It was put down to low voltage and was fine when we got home.

In reality countax I suspect that the recent flooding may have degraded the power network and that it is not only the campsite that is on a reduced supply.  The fact that the site was running again so soon is testament to the built in resilience and staff.

Write your comments here...interesting comment as the leaflet makes no mention of the floods; rather it describes "excessive power usage". There are still more questions than answers as a consequence of the leaflet.

OK. I now have a copy of the leaflet as kept at Reception.

The leaflet states" we ate currently experiencing power failure on certain areas of the site
due to excessive power usage. To help prevent further failure please could we sk for your support by keeping power usage to a minimum."

So, the reservation of various pitches  via the use of a cone appears unrelated however the leaflet raises more questions. E.g. What is excessive? What is a "minimum". Surely the site infrastructure was upgraded recently?

Giving out this sort of leaflet is pointless, as countax says "what is excessive". In winter we keep our Alde on 2kw  24/7, set on the thermostat to come on when required. I would not regard that as excessive, not when I am paying for a 16 amp supply. If
the problem is down to the floods it would be far better to say so, as people are far more likely to cut down. If I was told there was a temporary flood related problem I would be happy to reduce my Alde to 1kw, or even use gas if necessary.

yes, once we have warmed the caravan up we only need to have it at 900W anyway and as you say with a thermostat it won't use that all the time. The wardens should give more of an idea of what would be needed. Not sure about using gas mind

I am sure that is sound advice BB but I wouldn't even know how to run my fridge on gas (is that really possible anyway, I mean heating something up to cool it down?)

A bit late for me with that advice BB, as at the last service my fridge failed its carbon monoxide test. I was told this was due to the fact that my age of caravan (2007) used mild steel burners that rusted easily, as opposed to the stainless steel ones
on modern units. As I never use the gas option it does not matter too much as long as I inform any new owner.Smile

We were told the same and I agree with BB's advice to use all the appliances on gas every so often. If we had, we might not have had a fridge that we cannot now use on gas (we will be getting it sorted at next service, hopefully)......and on the French site we would have needed to and it sounds like at York and other sites, people might need to

As a matter of routine I run everything in the van on both gas and electric every time before we go away to make sure all is working well and again if we are off site and not driving for any length of time I put everything on gas until we set off again.
Getting the fridge and water heater to start up is sometimes a bit tricky if they have not been used on gas for a while after the winter but eventually they click in. I'd rather do it this way than find I need them and they don't work, especially as most of
our time touring is spent abroad. Regards, Roy

We have always used all our appliances on both gas and electric, in both vans and MH. Had no problems at all.

WinkMore information! The power issue only relates to the newly built area on the site where a new but temporary power cable has now been laid in order to assist in carrying the load. The older part is unaffected and there are no floods related power issues. The new part of the site requires further work on the power distribution in order to even  out the load across all of the site. The cones are placed in order to ensure larger outfits can be accommodated. You don't have to use a coned pitch if you have a larger outfit, rather they are there just to ensure that a suitable pitch is available. A real pain for the wardens surely.

If it is not flood related, it seems a bit strange. Surely they should have updated the power distribution when the redeveloped the site. Not wait until they get problems. These sort of things can be modelled.

So if you have a large outfit you can choose a coned (large) pitch which the warden has reserved for you, or any other pitch. Whereas if you just have a small outfit you can only use unconed pitches?

Oh dear, I can see where this is heading - cue the "it just ain't fair" brigade! Wink

Precisely so, M.......not at all fair and certainly not in accordance with the 'first come, first served' general arrangement......

I agree.......they change the site around a bit, without actually adding any extra pitches......and yet the power supply to the revised part of the site is suddenly inadequate.....the CC estates department should be on this instantly.

Instead, they restrict power usage to their customers.
