Web Site Booking Calenders

When looking for a cl I will use the cl facility on here. I chose an area and then start the procedure of selection. I note that some cl;s have their own website and that some of them have an online booking calender which shows available dates. This now
makes the job a lot easier as it cuts out an unnecessary phone call.

I think this is a great idea to help with booking. It lets us see what's available and leaves the owner with more time by not answering the phone to say "Sorry no vacancies".

To those of you with this system a big well done. To those who haven't this system them it must be worth considering

Its really easy to use the calendar on either uk campsite or available pitch.com and link it to your website in fact if you use available pitch its as good as having a website all for £20 per year.

Its a brilliant idea to make planning a tour round so much easier and I certainly would support CLs which used it.

    Tammy

I'm a bit surprised there has been no comments from others, especially the owners.

I am looking at a possible 6 week tour so using a cl with a booking system would be so much easier rather than make several phone calls and having to change plans to suit.

Have a look here www.greenacrescl.co.uk/tobook It's so clear and simple. You can see at a glance if there is availability.

Hope Alan at Greenacres doesn't mind me using his system as an example

I tend to use CLs with online availability and/or booking which has realistically resulted in the exclusion of others.  I'm only using one this year without the facility and it is purely down to its location.

The one draw back i can see is that there are still numerous areas of the uk without internet or very poor internet,so it could at the moment discriminate, its bad enough here at times and we are on "infinity" jokeFrown

Online booking is usually an additional feature.  I have never found a CL that uses online booking systems exclusively.

It's not discrimination as individual CLs will make different choices about how they wish to run their business.

Those who wish to use the handbook and phone will be able to do so.  My handbook went out for recycling months ago

...I do not think that is what this thread is about ,if the cl has minimal or nil tinternet the "calander" is not going to be available is it?

It won't be made compulsory JVB

It is an option that some CLs have chosen to do, independently of the CC and some members prefer it.

Are you suggesting that those CLs shouldn't have online systems because others have slow or no internet connections?

Anything that they can do to get business the better.  Many of us prefer that option and would like to see more doing it but it is entirely down to the CL and not the club or us members

I use the email route. Send a mail with requested dates. I send to 2/3 different CL's in the area of my choice. The first one I get a positive reply from gets my business.

Good for any cl owners who can get extra income ,shame that numerous owners will not have the opportunity to be able to do the same,as with most things innovate or loose

One way for owners to manage the curse of slow rural internet speed is, instead of using online booking which is the ideal option for many, is to post on their website the nights they are full and any vacancies that become available through cancellation/
no-shows. Of course it does mean the member has to email or telephone but worked well for us when we were running our CL.

Nice idea but I can't really imagine a full time working farmer changing his web site details every time he dets a single phone booking.

I like the idea of the web availability but have always picked up the phone for CLs. It can be frustrating when you can't get a reply though.

That is one thing that could help cl owners is at least have an answer phone and get back to the caller,we needed to be near Looe in Cornwall last year and saw a cl much nearer where we needed to be than the cc site, we called the number several times am
and pm before getting through and booking, when we arrived we were the only one there( it has toilets and showers)and EHU the owners said it had been a "Quiet" year, when i mentioned the times we had phoned, they said most people get through???

I'd love to be able to set up an online availability and booking system for our CL. Can anyone recommend a provider, or some CLs they've used that have a good system please? It would be handy to speak to someone who's done it before.

G Stevens, have you thought about joining the CL owners Facebook group? Have a look at this thread here. We have 40+ members so lots of advice available. Happy

Alternatively, if you don't 'do' Facebook, feel free to get in touch with me.  I have an online booking system which works very well.  You and other posters on this thread can see it in action on my website (address below).

Going by this thread, a search facility able to find CLs with online availability and booking might be useful.Wink

    G. Stevens

The availability calender on Nicola's  web site is exactly what I was suggesting in my first post.  A member will see at first glance whether his dates are available. It's instant and saves everybody time. Also have a look at the cl link below which gives
another good example. I'm sure either of those owner will help you.

I can confirm that Skybarn online booking works really well and so easy to use.

I seem to remember we had to email previously, which would then entail waiting until Nicola had time to reply. Now we know instantly if the site is full when we want to visit.

Response just received from me telling someone we are full, and we have an availability calendar, they dont always work!!!!

I'm guessing you will always be full to me as my every request garners a full response. I also guess I done something to offend when I stayed the first time, never mind, I shall look elsewhere and not bother you again.

I think one thing many do not realise is that not all CL Owners are computer literate, and whilst we can do simple things we are not the best and not good at texts either. We do have an answering machine and always look at it after being away from home,
and always ring back providing the person leaving the message has spoken slowly and clearly when leaving the phone number.  I am also not sure when there are two of you taking bookings with a computer system do you honour the computer or the "hard"  copy Caravan
Club bookings book, and if one is wrong you could easily over book and not have space for someone.   Think our system works not too bad.
