Hunters Moon - Wareham

Can I ask for advice on road noise, especially at night. The road outside looks very straight so will no doubt be fast

I don't recall any road noise, Harry, but I was more put off by the scrapyard next door. I didn't like the site and that's why I've booked elsewhere this time. Sorry.

We were there 18 months ago and was on a pitch at the top of the site so if there was any noise from the road, we didn't hear it or any noise from whatever was next door. The road is very fast  but certainly less noisy than Moreton in the Marsh with the HGV passing day and night. Would I go again to Hunters Moon, yes of course.

I have to say that when we wanted to book we booked Wareham Forest Touring Park a little further up the road.  Apart from the fact that Hunter's Moon was full for the nights we wanted, Wareham Forest was cheaper and much further away from the worries that
so have expressed about Hunter's Moon.

that is a busy road, weve cycled it from Wareham Touring Park.

far better to be on the rugby pitch THS and stroll into town, better nights sleep, too......and at a third of the price

Given that three are negative and Google Earth shows the scrap yard I've just cancelled the site. Being for this Friday for one week I tried the site at Swanage. They couldn't fit me in.

So with freedom to roam we are now booked into Exmoor House at Dulverton. Not much difference

We enjoyed our stay at Exmoor House.  If you get chance go to Tarr Steps.  There is a pub just opposite - I don't remember it's name, but you can't miss it - we had the largest cream tea in existence!!!

I wouldn't use Hunters Moon again, Harry. I'm glad you were forewarned and looked at Earth.

Given that three are negative and Google Earth shows the scrap yard I've just cancelled the site. Being for this Friday for one week I tried the site at Swanage. They couldn't fit me in.

So with freedom to roam we are now booked into Exmoor House at Dulverton. Not much difference 

IMO an infinitely better choice particulary if the weather is kind to you.

Whilst the Hunters Moon area is quite nice the site is a drive to most things; we most years use the commercial opposite in the shoulder seasons. That we clearly like and get an excellent off season deal.

Last March we could not help but notice the scrap yard was pumping out clouds of dense black smoke. Like you might get if say burning insulation off of cables or burning tyres.

I also ried to book Hunters Moon a couple of weeks ago but it was full so I stayed at the very peaceful and immaculate Wareham Touring Park just up the road a few hundred yards.

My mistake was to walk 15 mins down the fast and busy unpavemented road one evening to eat at the nearby pub (all BMW's, garden benches and hanging baskets). The scallop starter was o.k. but at £14.50 the seafood risotto was just a bowl of sloppy rice pudding with a couple of prawns and mussels chucked in.

As that was called  "The Silent Woman", that alone should have rung alarm bells! 

Nice lunch time eatery at the Old School Moreton, and off the road west out of Wool a great eating pub, {Counrtyman?]

Yes, that was it. 'The Silent Woman'. Elsewhere I mentioned my £7.50 local fresh 'crab' sandwich at the caff at Lulworth Cove which was bulked up by 30% with (local Tesco?) Shippams Crab Paste - a common wheeze apparently, whispered to me by my (unsurprisingly) prosperous pal who has three cafes in Falmouth. No wonder they make them 'Fresh' out the back where the smug paste jars can gather unseen.

The one we use is Birchwood, all of which is well off the road, not Wareham Forest.

Currently staying at Birchwood Touring Park, just 500m from Hunters Moon CC site. Virtually no road noise, good spotless facilities that are checked several times a day and Wi-Fi for £1 per day. I am on a grass pitch,( hard standing is available), with EHU
for less than half the price of the CC site.

The site has security barriers that are operated by ANPR, no faffing with keys or cards.
