Well just got back tonight after a 6 hour tow from the Cotswolds, another very happy summer holiday now burned into memory for the years ahead. Not sure if this should be on UK sites, or chat, but just a few thoughts.

Firstly  thanks for those posters who gave me ideas on what to do and see, and also the useful information on which services to use, the one at Donnington off the M1 was very useful and is excellent for caravans and MHs (its beyond the HGV park by the way - the sign is missing).

Both Warwick and Burford are excellent sites. We used Warwick as a mini stop over on the way down, it’s a small site mainly used as a stop over from the number who arrived with us and left after a day or so, but also had a number of vans with awning that seems to imply a longer stay. We were told at reception that we could park nose in or reverse but to check if we wanted to park sideways! We pitched nose in right against the racecourse opposite the grandstand.

Burford is an amazing and intriguing site, It has two full sized roundabouts on it with a 5m island in the middle! The pitches are huge and many have large areas to the size and behind them, we had two 3m grass strips either side and another caravan could easily have fitted behind us and still keep the 3m rule – in fact that is where they put rallies I found out to day. It has two dog walks. Also of interest is that there are two separate toilet/showers areas within the same building for both sexes.  I walked in to one on the first day and it had three showers and one toilet, blimey I thought this is not many, but there was never a queue. I only found out three days later that there was another one with six showers and many more cubicals. I wasn’t the only one who made this mistake I talked to two others who did the same.

But the most intriguing thing is that it was only full at weekends and only half to two thirds full during the week, the wardens themselves called it a ‘weekend site’, and on Sunday afternoons it was a prime site for that famous rule! Interestingly it had about half grass half hardstanding and you can guess which half was used during the week. Why is this site so underused?

There were lots of kids cycling around (sometimes even going the wrong way) and lots of dogs but everyone happy. The oddest moment was the chap who bought his wastemaster into the toilet cubical with him (No I wasn’t doing a survey but saw him in the mirror while washing my hands).

A big thank you to the hardworking wardens at both sites.
