Isuzu Trooper stability issues
I'm hoping that some of the more technical gurus can help me with a problem that's annoying me.
We have a 3.0 Trooper which is a heavy 4x4 towcar. We pull a sterling Eccles of roughly 1500mtplm. I load all the heavy items, awning, poles, clothing etc etc in the back of the car. The nose weight is 95kg , below the limit and as close to it as possible
to aid towing and stability. The van has Alko ATC fitted and a hitch head stabiliser which function correctly.
The car is well within its own ,and indeed the recommended 85% rule.
My problem is this, when towing if I go above 50 mph or tow in even slight wind or rainy conditions the caravan feels unstable and the car will sometimes kick out at the back as if starting to snake or jack knife.
Without trying to sound egotistical, I'm a 25 year fuel tanker driver with 44 ton articulated trucks. I've pulled caravans for longer so I've a good idea of how a vehicle should handle.
I can't understand what the actual problem is. My only thought is if the rear suspension on my tug needs replacing. New springs and shocks?
Can anyone give me any thoughts please?
Thanks Graham.
