Satellite dish/system

I have just bought a lovely Avtex 21" tv and now I'm looking at a satallite system to go with it. My questions are, can any dish work in the UK, Scottland Or France? Do I need a certain size dish? If a £100 system works why do people spend £1000's on systems?
What else do I need? What else do I need to know?

I know that's a few questions but I went to the motorhome and caravan show at the NEC and asked these questions on a few different stands and got told some very different answers.

I really like the Snipe auto tracking system but that's around £600 which I think is exspensive.
