Economical Towcar Suggestions.

First time poster but long time member so go easy.

We tow our 2006 Pageant Provence with an XC90 which doesn't do many miles solo so sub 30mpg isn't an issue.

However my wife will soon be starting work again so going from no commute to 120 miles per week.

XC90 will do 30mpg max which isn't too bad but then there's the £490 tax and high insurance and general running costs.

 

We are thinking of changing it for another towcar but one which will do an easy 45+ mpg with cheap insurance and tax.

Budget approx. £8k.

My first thoughts are Octavia TDi 4x4, Legacy, Passat TDi.

 

Any experience of these as towcars or other suggestions?

We have 3 children so it needs to be at least Passat size.
