Towing electric extension

I have just bought a Thule 916 tow bar carrier for my bikes. When I lock it down onto my tow bar, the base crushes against the electric socket plugged into the car towing electrics. Is it possible to get an  electric extension with a smaller plug on to prevent
the crushing.
