Is there a marked diffference in AWD, 2WD sometimes or 4WD all the time ?

I ask this as I am still looking for a towcar and seem to be opting for the sorento CRDI XSE 05 plate.

Does it use more fuel in 4wd as opposed to others ?

This car seems to be ok tax wise £280 and insurance wise.
